Samuel L. Jackson Wishes Nick Fury Was in Black Panther

Black Panther is still highly regarded as one of the better Marvel movies to come out of recent memory, with many even saying that it's the best MCU film. That might be a bit of hyperbole but it did please audiences and critics, with many praising the world building and villain, though the action scenes were pretty lackluster.

However, many fans were surprised to not see Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury in the movie. One would assume that the former head of S.H.I.E.L.D. would be interested in the secretive nation of Wakanda but he ended up not appearing. It turns out Jackson himself was surprised about his exclusion since he wanted to be in it.

In his appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres show, Jackson was hoping Fury would be used to introduce Wakanda to the rest of the MCU. This role ended up going to Everett Ross, played by Martin Freeman, though Jackson was just happy about the film's overall success.

"I mean, Nick Fury knows every black thing that's on the planet, so he's gotta know about Wakanda. I wish I had been there, but I'm really, really, really pleased with the success of that film and how it worked out."

With a Black Panther sequel more than likely to happen in Phase Four, it will be interesting to see if T'Challa and Fury end up meeting in the future. It would make for a fun dynamic, that's for sure, assuming they come back after the end of Infinity War.

Avengers 4 hits theaters on May 3, 2019.
