Samuel Jackson Reveals Why He Still Enjoys Playing Nick Fury After 14 Years

Samuel Jackson's Nick Fury plays a vital role in the MCU. Despite having no superpowers, Fury somehow managed to lead the Avengers in the Infinity Saga to defend the world from evil threats. Nick Fury also recruited the first-ever Avengers, which means without him, the Avengers initiative wouldn't happen at all.

A decade after Nick Fury debuted in the MCU in 2008's Iron-Man post-credit scene revealing to Tony Stark the Avengers Initiative, Fury continued making more appearances in several MCU films throughout the years. Fury appeared in several major MCU projects like Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Spiderman: Far From Home, and Captain Marvel. Even though Jackson has played Nick Fury for 14 years, the actor still enjoys playing the character and is confirmed to appear in more MCU projects for 2022 and 2023.

Now, in an interview with Collider, Jackson reflects on his 14 years run as the fan-favorite character, Nick Fury, and admits that he still enjoys it as much as he ever did.

Jackson explained, "Yeah. I love Nick Fury. Of course. Come on. He’s a guy who has no superpowers, who’s in charge of people who have superpowers, and they let him be. That’s something special about him. He’s a leader of men that are very different, in another kind of way. It’s very satisfying to be a part of a world that I admired for so long when I was a kid. I still buy comic books. I still go to comic book stores. I still read them. But to be able to be that character in that, it’s the same as when I was doing Afro Samurai, or any of those comic book characters. It means something to be part of a cultural canon that people revere and that they respect, in another way."

Even after 14 years, Jackson will remain an integral part of the MCU even though some of the members of the Avengers team stepped off from their roles. Jackson is set to star in the upcoming Disney+ series Secret Invasion and also confirmed that he will be reprising his role in The Marvels and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, both set for 2023.

It's promising to know that Nick Fury is still a prominent figure in the MCU for 2022 and 2023. Samuel Jackson evidently has no plans to retire with his beloved Marvel character and Marvel Studios could still play and develop more stories for Nick Fury. Fury could be an essential character for upcoming films like Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, and of course, Disney+'s Secret Invasion where he will be joined by MCU newcomer, Emilia Clarke.

Secret Invasion and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania are pushing a 2023 release date.
