Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 4 would have Come Out on This Day 9 Years Ago

While a lot of people love Tom Holland's Spider-Man, there is still a huge chunk of fans who are loyal to Sam Raimi's version of the character. What's interesting is that today marks the anniversary of Spider-Man 4's original release date, and fans are lamenting it online.

And now it's being flooded with comments from fans who are distraught that it was cancelled:

It was said that the film was supposed to have Vulture as the main villain and it was even going to feature a cameo by Mysterio played by Bruce Campbell. What's more, it was also said that Anne Hathway was in talks to play Felicia Hardy a.k.a. Black Cat for the movie, but then the film didn't push through.

With the way that Spider-Man 3 kind of fell apart, it would make sense for Sony to want to cancel the film. If you look back at those movies, you'll notice that they're actually incredibly cheesy, and with the new tone that Iron Man had set for superhero films, I don't think it would have made sense to keep this campy version of Peter Parker.

I know there are still some fans there that will die on their hill of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man being the best version, but I think it's all just really nostalgia that's driving that loyalty. I really like Holland's Peter Parker, and I think his version is the closest one we have to comic Spidey.

For now, Spider-Man 3 starring Tom Holland is set to come out on Nov. 5, 2021.
