It was recently revealed that Extraction director Sam Hargrave is involved with Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season 2 as a second unit director. He has teased that the action sequences on the show are on "another level," and now, he shares some details on the work that is put out in making these action scenes.

Talking to Collider, Hargrave revealed that there are a few twists in filming the Star Wars series. "Truthfully, it didn't really impact us on the action side," he said when asked if working with a special structure known as "The Volume" has an effect on action sequences. However, he pointed out that there was a limit to what they could do with the closed space, saying it was a "little constrictive."

That said, Hargrave thinks it's "interesting" to return in an "older school of filmmaking" once they have background prints up. "So much prep goes into it. They're not making it up, going, ‘Oh, well, we could put this in the background,'" he added. "They know exactly what they're going to do."

The filmmaker was amazed by the virtual scouting for locations to shoot at, saying that it's a "wild process." Hargrave says filming The Mandalorian was "extremely futuristic" yet it also "goes back to an old school way of filmmaking."

Having worked as a second unit director and stuntman on movies such as Avengers: Infinity War, Endgame, and Deadpool 2 amongst others, there's no doubt that Hargrave brings a lot of experience and skills to the table.
