Sony is set to make a movie adaptation of Uncharted starring Spider-Man's Tom Holland as a young Nathan Drake. Interestingly enough, the onscreen role of Drake was very close to having been played by one Ryan Reynolds.

Talking to Discussing Film, original director Joe Carnahan explained that Reynolds was up for the role of this generation's Indiana Jones before Holland was even considered for the part. Apparently, Reynolds had to give up the role to star in Deadpool, and the project was ultimately put on the backburner.

For now, Carnahan is only credited as the writer of the Uncharted film, but Dan Trachtenberg (Black Mirror) is now set at the helm. Originally Shawn Levy (Stranger Things) was set to direct, but he had to bow out due to another one of his projects getting greenlit. Hopefully, Trachtenberg will be up to the task. Then again, if history is any indicator, video game movies almost always disappoint. Just look at Warcraft, Tomb Raider, and Assassin's Creed.

The Uncharted movie is said to be focusing on a young Nathan Drake as he grows to become the infamous adventurer we know and love from the video games. Besides Holland, we don't know who else is in the cast. Hopefully, they find someone to be a proper mentor in the form of Sully. How crazy would it be if they cast Robert Downey Jr. to play another Holland mentor in this film?

No release date has been set for Sony's Uncharted movie.
