Ahead of the anime series’ release, the RWBY: Ice Queendom manga adaptation has launched in the latest issue of Monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh of Kadokawa which was released on June 27.

The RWBY: Ice Queendom manga follows the same story as the ongoing anime series which aired its first episode this week. Its release was announced earlier this year alongside news regarding the anime.

RWBY: Ice Queendom released its first episode on July 3. The show is a 2D anime take on the original RWBY series, and it is animated by Japanese studio SHAFT which is known for its works such as the Monogatari series and Puella Magi Madoka Magica.

Ice Queendom isn’t exactly a reboot, nor is it an alternate universe version of Rooster Teeth’s iconic 3D animated series. Instead, you can think of it as a different take on the series.

Set in the world of Remnant, the anime follows Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna, and Yang Xiao Long – four Huntresses in training.

In Remnant, Hunters and Huntresses are the only hope against the creatures known as Grimm which threaten humanity.

The series follows the four in their journey and the trials that they must face to become the next generation of Remnant’s protectors.

Before the Ice Queendom anime and manga, RWBY started as a web animated series by Monty Oum for Rooster Teeth.

From there, the web series continued to be popular, so much so that the series now has eight seasons, with the ninth season set to release sometime in 2023.

Since the release of the web series, RWBY has expanded into a franchise with expansions to other media, including books, video games, and other manga. A RWBY Justice League crossover feature film has also been announced recently.

Currently, there’s no word yet on how long the RWBY manga series will be. Though it will continue its serialization on Dengeki Daioh while the anime series airs.
