There is little doubt that the coronavirus outbreak has been a terrible thing for everyone. Sadly, the pandemic has also affected the film industry as movie theaters were shut down for several months and productions were put on hold. However, the Russo Brothers believe that the industry is set for a huge rebound once the pandemic is over.
While taking part in Deadline's The Film That Lit My Fuse video series, the Avengers: Endgame directors admitted that they are hopeful for the film industry after the pandemic. Anthony Russo stated that the situation could actually lead to people wanting to experience a different kind of storytelling.
"We're trying to look at this as an opportunity for where can it lead us as storytellers, how can we find the road forward to create something that people want to share together as audiences? I think there's always going to be people chasing that idea, there's always going to be people chasing the communication between all of us through film, through storytelling, and through cinema," Anthony said.
"I don't know what the rebound is going to be like, but I know that it's probably going to have the elements of it that are brand new, that we didn't have before," he added. "And I'm most excited for what kind of new areas this pushes us into."
Not surprisingly, Joe Russo agreed with his brother, stating that the rebound will be "significant, there's no question." He then added that it will be good for the industry as well as film-lovers. "As Ant said, we all crave communal storytelling, and that's not going anywhere. Will technology assist it in finding a new way to present itself? Maybe, maybe the roots of it will start in this," Joe concluded.
