Rurouni Kenshin Announces New Anime Set for 2023 Release

The legendary Hitokiri Battosai is set to return next year. A new Rurouni Kenshin anime has just been announced along with a trailer, the main staff, and the main cast for the latest adaptation of the Nobuhiro Watsuki manga.

The new Rurouni Kenshin anime was announced during the Aniplex Online Fest 2022 event where the trailer was unveiled. The teaser features two sides of Kenshin Himura. We also get to revisit that epic fight scene where Battosai faces off against Akira Kiyosato and his fellow Mimawarigumi bodyguards.

Rurouni Kenshin will star Soma Saito as Kenshin Himura and Rie Takahashi as Kaoru Kamiya. Cells at Work! Code Black director Hideyo Yamamoto will direct the anime at Liden Films while Terumi Nishii is designing the characters. Hideyuki Kurata is in charge of series composition and Yu Takami has been confirmed to compose the music.

We're loving the trailer since it confirms that the new anime will be a reboot of the original Rurouni Kenshin manga. With that in mind, we can't wait to revisit Kenshin Himura next year.

Rurouni Kenshin is based on the manga by Nobuhiro Watsuki and will follow Kenshin Himura, a soft-spoken wanderer who saves dojo owner Kaoru Kamiya from a murderer who claims to be Hitokiri Battosai, an infamous assassin from the Bakumatsu.

The manga has been adapted into an anime back in the 1990s along with several OVAs and a series of live-action films. The movies starred Takeru Satoh as Kenshin Himura, Emi Takei as Kaoru Kamiya, Munetaka Aoki as Sagara Sanosuke, and Yu Aoi as Takani Megumi.

The new Rurouni Kenshin anime has not yet been given an official release date. However, it is already expected to be broadcast on Fuji TV's Noitamina programming block in 2023. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
