Ruri Dragon has been on hiatus for over a year now, but fans are hoping it will come back soon. Recently, Ruri Dragon creator Masaoki Shindo shared that they are feeling much better and that they hope to bring good news in 2024.

Shindo shared this message on their personal X (formerly Twitter) account along with a cute illustration of the main character, Ruri.

This message and commemorative illustration were shared to celebrate the manga’s surprise placement in the prestigious Kono Manga ga Sugoi ranking.

Ruri Dragon: A Surprise Inclusion in Kono Manga ga Sugoi

Every year, Japanese publisher Takarajimasha shares a manga ranking that’s voted by industry professionals and students.

The latest ranking was released a few days ago, and at the top is The Days of Diamond, the fairly new Young Jump baseball manga. Other notable titles in the top 10 are Skip and Loafer and Daemons of the Shadow Realm.

Kono Manga ga Sugoi’s latest ranking also featured Ruri Dragon at the tenth spot.

This is the only Weekly Shonen Jump manga on the list, and it’s one that most readers probably didn’t expect as it has been a while since the last chapter.

Ruri Dragon began serialization in Shonen Jump back in June 2022. It quickly became a big hit among readers, with many loving the manga’s comedic story and adorable protagonist.

Sadly, the series went on hiatus after only six chapters were released. This is due to the author Shindo’s health.

Despite the manga still having only six chapters right now, the fact that it ranked highly means the anticipation for its return is very much alive.

Ruri Dragon Author Masaoki Shindo Shares Positive Health Update

Following the Kono Manga ga Sugoi ranking’s release, Shindo took to X to share thanks to fans. There, they thanked voters for choosing the manga. They also apologized for not sharing anything over the past few months.

Shindo did say that they are now feeling much better and that they hope to share good news in 2024. This is not an exact confirmation of a Ruri Dragon return in 2024, though fans are taking this as a good sign.

If it does return, there’s no doubt that manga readers will give it a lot of attention given how popular it continues to be.

On the off chance it does return, fans are hoping that Shindo’s health will hold up well enough for the series to return to a weekly serialization.
