Running Up That Hill's Kate Bush Salutes Stranger Things 4 Creators in an Emotional Post

Netflix's critically-acclaimed series Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 1 continues to break global records even outside the streaming platform. Though the latest season is unquestionably triumphant, it also brought back 80s nostalgia after the inclusion of Kate Bush's 1985 hit, “Running Up That Hill” in the spine-chilling Dear Billy episode. Weeks after the song's feature, Bush's song climbed up and impressively reached 1st spot on iTunes last month, and No. 4 on Billboard’s Hot 100 list last week.

Now, on Kate Bush’s official site On Top of That Hill, the singer wrote her gratefulness to the Stranger Things creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, for the inclusion of her 80s hit single. The 63-year-old singer praised the show, and also shared appreciation for featuring her song ‘in such a positive light.’

See Bush's full statement below:

"The Duffer Brothers have created four extraordinary series of Stranger Things in which the child actors have grown into young adults. In this latest series the characters are facing many of the same challenges that exist in reality right now. I believe the Duffer Brothers have touched people’s hearts in a special way, at a time that's incredibly difficult for everyone, especially younger people.

By featuring "Running Up That Hill" in such a positive light - as a talisman for Max (one of the main female characters) - the song has been brought into the emotional arena of her story. Fear, conflict and the power of love are all around her and her friends.
I salute the Duffer Brothers for their courage - taking this new series into a much more adult and darker place. I want to thank them so much for bringing the song into so many people’s lives.
I’m overwhelmed by the scale of affection and support the song is receiving and it’s all happening really fast, as if it’s being driven along by a kind of elemental force.

I have to admit I feel really moved by it all. Thank you so very much for making the song a No 1 in such an unexpected way."

“Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) surprisingly went back on charts after more than three decades and overthrew other latest tracks. Running Up That Hill now places no. 1 on UK Charts, and also sits no. 3 on the Billboard Global 200, thanks to its inclusion in the latest season of Stranger Things.

The 37-year-old song was also used in the newly dropped trailer of Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 2, which seemingly hints that it would now be the major soundtrack of the show.

Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 1 is available to stream on Netflix, while Volume 2 will premiere on July 1.
