Rumor: Fallout 76 Will Be an Online Survival RPG

There is currently a lot of anticipation for the recently announced Fallout 76, which is usually the case for Bethesda games in general. It's hard to tell how the game will play since no gameplay was shown in the short teaser released, though the final audio cue does hint that the game takes place during a significant part of the series canon.

Interestingly enough, three sources have told Kotaku that this game will be an online survival RPG, similar to titles like Don't Starve or Conan Exiles. Should this be true, it would be completely different from a New Vegas-like game since many were expecting the game to have the same engine and gameplay from Fallout 4. Granted, that could still be the case but with added online features but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Apparently, there were plans to make an online version of Fallout 4 to see how the franchise can evolve. Fallout 76 is a bit different from that and is a result of continued over the past few years. Despite being an online survival RPG, fans will be happy to know that there will be a story and a ton of quests, just like most Fallout games. Base-building will supposedly return as well, which makes sense since that mechanic is a big draw for fans of the genre.

Bethesda has not confirmed or denied these statements, so we will have to wait until June 10 to see how the game plays. Fallout 76 has no official release date as of this writing.
