Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Casting Considered Problematic Because of Her Anti-Discrimination Lawsuit

Star Wars fans might be more than eager to see Rosario Dawson play Ahsoka Tano in the second season of Star Wars: The Mandalorian, however, it seems like there are some taking issue with Lucasfilm's decision to cast the Marvel Netflix star as Anakin Skywalker's former Padawan.

Aside from Ahsoka Tano voice actress Ashley Eckstein, Dawson has always been a fan-favorite choice among those bidding for Snip's transition into the live-action Star Wars universe. Not only does Dawson have the facial features to pull off the character, but she's also had considerable experience in portraying strong female characters.

Dawson's performances as Allegra Dill in the series Briarpatch and Clair Temple in various Marvel Netflix series like Daredevil and Luke Cage all seem to be proof that the actress would be a good fit for Lucasfilm's Ahsoka.

However, despite her skill and her popularity among pop culture fans, Michigan Daily finds Dawson's casting as Ahsoka Tano rather troubling. According to the site, Dawson's alleged actions against trans worker Dedrek Finely puts her at odds with the role. Sure, Dawson may have come out as part of the LGBTQIA, however, the actress has an anti-discrimination civil lawsuit filed against her by one of her former employees, Dedrek Finely.

According to news reports, Finley filed a suit alleging that Dawson and members of her family knowingly misgendered, deadnamed and even physically assaulted him while he was working for the actress for years.

While the case has yet to come to a close, these alleged actions seem to counter the values that Ahsoka Tano represents. The former Padawan always sought justice for the marginalized and the oppressed. So why should Dawson get to play Ahsoka?
