Ron Howard On Solo Underperforming Because Of Star Wars: The Last Jedi

There are a lot of reasons attributed to Solo: A Star Wars Story's poor box office performance. Some blame the film's troubled production and directorial shake-ups. Some blame it on its tight release with films like Avengers: Infinity War and Deadpool 2 leaving moviegoers without any budget for Lucasfilm's newest spinoff. Others blame it on Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Taking to Twitter, Solo director Ron Howard has decided to speak up about the possibility of Star Wars: The Last Jedi's divisiveness affecting his Star Wars spinoff. Responding to a fan who expressed disappointment over The Last Jedi haters snubbing Solo because of the way they felt about last Star Wars saga entry, Howard went on writing about how proud he was of the work he did with Solo's cast and crew.

Though Solo offered the origin story of Star Wars' favorite smuggler, the film struggled at the box office, opening to a disappointing $83 million during its three-day opening weekend and then falling by 66% during its second week at the box office. This came as a huge disappointment to many – analysts had large numbers estimated for the film. Solo is the first ever Star Wars movie to flop at the box office. However, fans shouldn't really put all the blame on The Last Jedi or on Star Wars fatigue. There's a lot of blame to go around. Besides, regardless of what happened, Solo was still a pretty enjoyable film.

Solo: A Star Wars Story is currently screening in cinemas.
