Rogue One Writer Reveals BTS Story About Iconic Darth Vader Scene

The movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was first released in theaters back in 2016. The film brought fans their second new film in a long time. It was also the first movie in the franchise that is not considered part of the Skywalker saga. Even if the film is not considered to be part of the saga, Anakin Skywalker made an appearance from a certain point of view. Early promotional footage of the film confirmed the inclusion of Darth Vader, however, only a few expected him to draw his lightsaber in the finale.

During the finale, Darth Vader cut through the Rebel Alliance forces easily while also pursuing the Death Star plans that were acquired by Cassion Andor, Jyn Erso, and their allies. Rogue One is the first time Darth Vader made an appearance in live-action since Revenge of the Sith, and his appearance in the film made an impact on fans. Rogue One’s writer, Gary Whitta, shared on Twitter was his reaction was when he first saw the scene in action.

"I still remember vividly Gareth excitedly showing me the first cut of this," Whitta captioned. "No music or VFX, wires still visible, but even in that nascent form it was clear that it was going to straight-up murder audiences. As I recall Peter Jackson was on set that day also losing his shit."

While the Rogue One film marked the first return of Darth Vader to the Star Wars universe under Disney, it definitely won’t be his last. Star Wars actor Hayden Christensen will be coming back to his role in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+. Since the series takes place between Star Wars’ prequel and the original trilogies, he’ll most likely be donning his iconic armor for a rematch against his old Jedi master.

Obi-Wan Kenobi series is set to be released on May 25, 2022 exclusively on Disney+.
