Robert Downey Jr. Had a Different Response In Mind For His Last Scene in Avengers: Endgame

One of the most emotional and heart-wrenching scenes in Avengers: Endgame was Tony Stark's final moments where he did the snap which ultimately led to his death. The highest-grossing film was released months ago but fans surely can't get over such a tear-jerker scene. Including Robert Downey Jr. himself, who actually had a different line in mind as a response to Thanos.

Downey opened this year's People's Choice Awards where he recalled his character's final moments in the movie. He mentioned that what he really wanted to say in that scene was, "Oh, snap." But he admits that the "I am Iron Man" line was "fitting" as his final statement.

If he ended up using the said sarcastic line, it would be epic since his character is known for making such quips. However, the line they went with seemed the best choice as his final line to give a powerful and nostalgic factor to the scene.

That being said, the said scene actually had multiple versions. Jeff Ford, the Endgame editor, previously revealed that Downey had different ideas for his last scene, including funny, emotional, and "insane" ones. Eventually, Ford decided on the iconic line at the last minute since they noticed it's symmetry and how it's actually a full-circle moment.

Filming Stark's final scene was an extreme process. Ford revealed that Downey liked to explore and try different things until he finds something special. I imagine this process to be really thorough since Downey had a lot of great scenes to choose from to make the cut and they had to find the best one out of all of them. The line they went with proved to be the best choice since it really made a mark to millions of fans around the world.

Avengers: Endgame will be available at Disney+'s launch on November 12.
