Rob Liefeld Doesn’t Believe That Hugh Jackman Won’t Reprise Wolverine Role

Hugh Jackman might insist that he's retired from playing Wolverine ever since the actor had his swan song as James Hewlett in Logan back in 2017 but it looks like Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld doesn't believe that the actor's done with Wolverine yet.

Speaking in an interview with Inverse to talk about all things Marvel during the COVID-19 quarantine, Liefeld decided to share his thoughts on Wolverine. Now that the X-Men and Deadpool film franchises are under the control of Disney, Liefeld reveals how he "foolishly" holds on to the hope that Jackman might reprise his role as Wolverine.

"I'm stuck on Hugh Jackman," the comic book writer told the entertainment news outlet during their lengthy interview, "Having met Hugh, having loved Hugh, there is only Deadpool because of Wolverine… I was doing Deadpool [in the comics] to get to Wolverine. Wolverine was always the goal."

Ever since Jackman appeared in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, it's become hard to imagine anyone else playing the role. The actor has become the golden standard when it comes to wolverine.

"I can't answer the question on Wolverine, I'm stuck on Hugh Jackman," Liefeld said. "I hope to God he comes back, I do. He's been seriously firm that he's not going to be Wolverine, and I foolishly don't believe him."

While Marvel has yet to announce its plans for the X-Men film franchise, many believe that Marvel Studios is going to reboot the character for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The studio won't keep Wolverine dead knowing how important the mutant is for the X-Men franchise.
