Road House is a remake of the cult classic movie released in 1989. Considering the original film was not suitable for kids, has the new film toned down on its mature content? Here's our Road House (2024) parents guide you must read before watching the film.

What Is the Road House (2024) Film About?

Road House (2024) is described as an "adrenaline-fueled reimagining" of Patrick Swayze's 1989 film.

The movie follows the story of Elwood Dalton (played by Jake Gyllenhaal), an ex-UFC fighter who takes a job as a bouncer at a roadhouse.

The roadhouse seems to be frequented by people who are "a little aggressive." This is where Dalton enters the picture and helps protect the roadhouse from brawls.

As mentioned, Road House (2024) is a remake of the 1989 film that starred Patrick Swayze. The movie follows the same premise with a different main character, who goes by the name of Elwood Dalton.

Another difference, of course, is that the main character is a professional bouncer (or cooler) at a roadside bar in Missouri. He protects the business from a corrupt businessman.

When the original movie first came out, it did not earn the success it anticipated at the box office. But despite this, the film gained a following over the years, thanks to home video and cable.

Now considered a cult classic, Road House (1989) has become one of Swayze's most beloved films, together with Dirty Dancing.

A direct sequel, Road House 2, was released in 2006. It followed the story of Shane Tanner (played by Johnathon Schaech), a DEA agent looking for his father's murderer.

True to the cult classic's nature, Road House (2024) promises brutal and bloody scenes, boat chases, explosions, and several surprises in the film.

Considering the nature of the film, it's no surprise that the movie has earned an R rating. This is consistent with the R rating the film's predecessors received.

The R rating of Road House (2024) is for its "violence throughout, pervasive language, and some nudity."

Although the new film promises to be more graphic with its fight scenes and use of blood, it has taken a mellow approach to nudity and sexual scenes.

This is contrary to the original film, which heavily featured these as the film's highlights.

While the official rating suggests there will be "some nudity" in Road House (2024), it won't be sexual, unlike the original movie.

Despite this, it may not be wise to allow young kids to watch the film due to its violent nature.

Road House (2024) will be available to stream on Prime Video starting Thursday, March 21, 2024.
