Rian Johnson Speaks Out Against The Star Wars Trolls Who’ve Been Harassing Kelly Marie Tran

Rian Johnson has a lot to say about the trolls who've been bullying Star Wars: The Last Jedi actress Kelly Marie Tran online.

The Force Awakens sequel turned out to be one of the most divisive films in the Star Wars franchise and one of the points of contention was the Canto Bight sequence with Finn (John Boyega) and Rose, Tran's character. A mechanic and member of the Resistance, Rose was written to help further the character development of the sequel trilogy's Stormtrooper-Turned-Resistance-Fighter Finn. However, fans didn't really find Tran's character necessary, and some have been continuously insulting the actress online.

Because of this harassment, Tran just recently left Instagram, deleting all of her posts on the social media site.

Speaking up against the trolls, The Last Jedi director took to Twitter to call out against Star Wars "fans" who've been doing nothing but harassing Tran and other Star Wars stars online.

Johnson also wrote a post reminding everyone that true fans of the franchise knew how to dislike things without posting ad hominems, saying that the trolls are just the vocal minority in the fanbase.

The Star Wars director isn't the only one who's decided to speak out against the toxicity of the fanbase. Chewbacca actor Joonas Suotama also took to Twitter to remind fans that "we can choose not to be part of the divisive and hateful discourse that permeates our culture today. The changes starts from YOU."

Sure some fans might have their reasons for disliking The Last Jedi, but that isn't an excuse to harass the cast and crew of the film. We can all be civil, can't we? We really hope things change for the Star Wars fanbase.
