Rian Johnson Confirms that His Star Wars Trilogy is Still in the Works

Rumors have recently been going around that RIan Johnson's Star Wars trilogy has been cancelled, but the Last Jedi director confirms that the project is still pretty much alive.

Johnson was asked by a fan on Twitter whether his trilogy was still being worked on, and Johnson replied simply:

Though it may seem that a lot of people hated Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the simple truth is that a lot more people were happier with the film; Lucasfilm especially. In fact, Lucasfilm was so pleased with Johnson's work that he was allowed to helm his own trilogy of movies set apart from the Skywalker saga.

We still don't have the release date or any specifics on Johnson's story, but we should expect some news sometime next year. Hopefully Star Wars Celebration 2019 will give us a solid update on what Johnson is working on and when we can expect it to hit theaters.

I especially loved The Last Jedi, and I'm excited to see where Johnson is going to take his series of films. Unlike The Force Awakens, TLJ took a lot of risks, and I'd say that most of them paid off wonderfully.

Star Wars Episode IX comes out Dec. 20, 2019.
