There is little doubt that The Last of Us is turning out to be the best live-action adaptation of a video game in recent memory, and it looks like fans of another popular title. Fans of Resident Evil are begging HBO to pick up and revive the failed franchise after the recent series was cancelled by Netflix.
The Last of Us was released last Sunday and it immediately blew everybody's minds. Episode 1 spanned over 55 years and set the tone for the show, and viewers were so pleased that the premiere became the second most successful one for HBO, second only to House of the Dragon's first episode.
Surely, such success didn't go unnoticed. Fans who were disappointed with Resident Evil's latest series began begging HBO to procure the rights to the franchise and give it a makeover.
For now, it is unclear if Resident Evil will be getting more projects in the future. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
In July 2022, Netflix released the first season of Resident Evil, which consist of eight episodes. The series alternates between two timelines and follows Jade and Billie Wesker during their days in New Raccoon City where they discover their father Albert has dark secrets tied to Umbrella Corporation, and 14 years in the future as Jade tries to survive the end of the world.
Although viewers praised Lance Reddick's performance in the series, it still received mixed reviews and was ultimately cancelled by Netflix just a month after its release. For now, there are no plans to revive the series and it is unclear whether there will be other Resident Evil projects in the future.
In the meantime, the zombie apocalypse continues for The Last of Us. The first episode of The Last of Us is currently streaming on HBO Max. The second episode, which is titled Infected, will premiere on Sunday, January 22, 2023.
