#ReleaseTheAyerCut for David Ayer’s Suicide Squad Surpasses 120k Tweets

Fans were finally able to put #ReleaseTheSnyderCut to rest when Zack Snyder's Justice League was announced, but they have one more director's cut in their sites—David Ayer's Suicide Squad. #ReleaseTheAyerCut had gone trending yesterday, and it has apparently reached Snyder Cut numbers.

The final tally was announced by the Ayer Cut account on Twitter:

With the Snyder Cut having reached something closer to 300k tweets at best, #ReleaseTheAyerCut has a long way to go, then again with HBO Max already releasing Snyder's version, it would make sense for them to consider Ayer's cut of Suicide Squad; after all, the fanbase is clearly showing that they want that to happen.

We don't know the specifics of Ayer's original version of Suicide Squad, but we know that it will have a darker tone compared to what we got in theaters. After the backlash of Batman v Superman, WB was said to have panicked and heavily edited the film, and the closest we have of the original Ayer version is the SDCC sneak peek that came out a few years back.

As for more specifics, it's said that Ayer's version will give us the ‘true' Joker performance of Jared Leto which was apparently butchered in the theatrical cut. We're also set to get more from characters like Katana and Diablo, the latter actually making it out alive by the end of the film.

The DCEU has admittedly been a mess until recently, but the release of these director's cuts are sign that WB is ready to respect the creatives moving forward. While I'm not expecting it to be perfect, I'd be open to seeing what Ayer's original vision for the movie would be.

David Ayer's Suicide Squad has not been officially announced, but you can catch Zack Snyder's Justice League on HBO Max sometime in 2021.
