Rebecca Guay Announces New Magic: The Gathering Card Art & Art Book Kickstarter


Legendary Magic: The Gathering artist Rebecca Leveille (a.k.a. Rebecca Guay in Magic community) has revealed that she has created a new illustration for a Magic card that is due out next May. The news comes with her announcement of her second Kickstarter campaign this past weekend to fund her upcoming artbook The Present.

In her Kickstarter, Guay announced:

"A release of a playmat and print of the NEW piece that will mark the return of my art that will be included in the MTG game—in a new piece coming out in MAY (you heard it here first!). I can't show it to you until its released, but I LOVE it and they let me do ANYTHING I wanted (yes anything!)!"

Guay is finally returning to Magic: The Gatehring after more than a decade, and she will be a adding a new card to the 160+ cards she has illustrated for Magic between 1996-2009.

Her artbook features a mixture of her fine art and Magic: The Gathering illustration offered as limited edition facemasks, playmats, prints, puzzles, and more. Magic fans will also have a chance to purchase original preliminary sketches of her card illustrations, directly from her sketchbooks.

Her campaign ha a $60,000 goal, and will run for just over a month. At the time of this writing, there are 186 backers with $76,187 already raised. You can check out all rewards in the Backer Gifts Gallery page on her website and they will be updated as new goals are unlocked.

Here are the extended playmat designs for the base campaign, including Hana Kami, Channel, and Angelic Renewal.

Her artoworks will also be availble as a 16" x 20" or 30" x 40" limited edition prints, and she also has brand new artwork extentions for future stretch goals later in the campaign. Here's a preview of the Bitterblossom design that will be unlocked once the first funding goal is reached:

She also said that there's a potential collaboration for a playmat/print with one of her favorite MTG artists.

Each Evolution Box includes a signed Magic: The Gathering artist proof card with a watercolor sketch, one of the last signed copies of Guay's first art book Evolution, a signed oversized Titani card, a signed print of her work The Visitor, and an original Magic preliminary pencil sketch, taken from her sketchbook. For those who are not fans of Magic, you can also get original watercolor works instead of the pencil sketches.
