Who Is the Real Masamune in Masamune-kun’s Revenge?
In the convoluted plot of Masamune-kun's Revenge, there are two Masamune: Masamune Makabe and Kanetsugu Gasou. They may have the same name (or nickname), but they are completely distinct from each other.
We all know everything about Makabe Masamune, even his reasons, but we know so little about Kanetsugu Gasou (as anime-only watchers).
But still, Makabe and Kanetsugu are both vying for Aki Adagaki’s attention for their own personal reasons.
Unfortunately, Aki Adagaki is the true victim of this difficult situation because she is unaware of their true reason for pursuing her.
She is led to believe that Makabe and Kanetsugu have genuine feelings for her, which is not true for either of them.
So, in Masamune-kun's Revenge, who is the true Masamune between Makabe and Kanetsugu?

Is Kanetsugu Gasou the Real Masamune?
In Masamune-kun's Revenge, Kanetsugu Gasou is not the real Masamune. He is simply falsifying his identity because he resembles the actual Masamune, whom Aki knew back in the day.
Kanetsugu is also taking advantage of the situation because he is concerned about his family's finances.
If Kanetsugu can play Aki's childhood friend turned fiancée, his family's financial difficulties will be solved.
They were wealthy and influential, comparable to Aki's family, but hard circumstances destroyed everything that Kanetsugu's family worked for.
So, when the opportunity to disguise himself as Aki's boyhood friend emerged, Kanetsugu jumped at it.
After all, Kanetsugu's features are identical to those of Masamune. He was overweight, and his body shape was precisely like that of the actual person.
He also acts as an honest gentleman towards Aki, which adds credibility to his deception.
Kanetsugu also has a sly and scheming personality. He will use and manipulate anyone to get closer to Aki, even her friends.
But the worst part is that Kanetsugu Gasou is actually a girl dressed as a boy! You didn't see that one coming, did you? Well, neither am I!
In light of this, Kanetsugu is only hiding her feminine features from Aki by covering her chest and acting like a young boy.
She will do anything, even become a boy, just to support her family, especially her sister.

Is Masamune Makabe the Real Masamune?
Masamune Makabe is, in fact, the true Masamune in Masamune-kun's Revenge. He was the overweight young boy Aki used to call "Pig's Foot" when they were kids.
It’s just that Makabe decided to change himself and his appearance for the better after Aki rejected his feelings.
Makabe not only became more attractive and fit, but he also became obsessed with eating low-calorie and healthy foods.
So, when Makabe discovered that Aki was the same girl who had mocked him in the past, he devised a plan of retaliation.
Simply put, Makabe wanted Aki to be as unhappy and hurt as he was. He wants Aki to fall in love with him, and if he is successful, he will reject her.
It's a cunning strategy, but Makabe is determined to repay the favor. The only issue now is the appearance of Kanetsugu Gasou, who stole his identity and exploited it.
After all, Aki no longer recognizes Makabe because his appearance has altered.
Makabe's only chance to prove his identity to Aki is to tell her their story and how the two of them met in person.
