After premiering in Japan last year, the Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out and Knapsack Kid movies are finally coming to US cinemas this March.

The two films’ US release was announced recently by Aniplex of America, and the two movies will be screened as a double feature. Fans will need to secure tickets ASAP though, as the screenings will be limited.

What’s more, fans who haven’t watched the series in a long time may want to get a quick refresher on the anime and the first film.

Rascal Does Not Dream is a light novel series that was adapted into an anime by CloverWorks (of Horimiya and Bocchi the Rock! fame). The TV anime adapted the light novel series’ first five volumes.

Titled Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai, the anime was a hit when it aired in the fall 2018 season. Instead of getting a new season, a film titled Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl was released in 2019.

This film is a direct sequel as it adapted the sixth and seventh volumes of the light novel series.

It took a while before another anime was released. Finally, the Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out movie came out in Japan in June last year, with a limited screening at Anime Expo 2023.

Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsack Kid was then released in December 2023. Sister Venturing Out and Knapsack Kid are based on volumes 8 and 9 of the light novels, respectively.

The timelines may be a bit weird given that Sakuta seems to meet a young version of Mai, but fans should only need to watch the TV anime and the Dreaming Girl movie ahead of the upcoming US double feature.

Fans in the US will be happy to know that Aniplex will screen Sister Venturing Out and Knapsack Kid this March, complete with a Japanese and an English dub option.

Take note that this is a limited screening. After all, wider releases of anime films are usually only for bigger shonen titles like Demon Slayer or One Piece.

The Japanese version with English subtitles will be screened only on March 24. Meanwhile, the English dub will screen on March 25.

There are no complete details yet, but what we do know is that tickets for the double feature will be available beginning February 23, 2024.
