Ralph Breaks the Internet Directors Think a Disney Princess Spinoff is ‘Worth Exploring’

Ralph Breaks the Internet is probably one of the best animated movies of last year, and one of the most standout scenes in the film is when Vanellope runs into the Disney Princesses. As it turns out director Phil Johnston and Rich Moore have been frequently asked about a spinoff, and they think it's an idea worth getting into.

Talking to the A.V. Club, Moore explained:

"It has definitely had an interesting response not just here in the States, but everywhere we've gone in the world promoting the movie. When you're in Stockholm and they're saying like, ‘Have you considered doing a movie just about the Princesses?' I think it's an idea worth exploring, because everywhere we go, we hear that response. 'Oh my God, I love the Princesses like that.'"

While I do love that the film was able to crossover with all the different princesses in the film, I think a crossover would be hard to pull off as a full movie. For one, the story would require all the princesses to exist at the same logical time. It works in Ralph since they all exist in the Disney website, but from a story standpoint? They would have to break the rules of each character's universe.

Also, it would be hard to gather all the same actresses to work for the film. They only had small lines in this movie, and I'm sure it would be a bigger commitment to do a full movie. Plus, Disney would have a problem trying to balance out screentime for every character just to please everyone.

If anything, I think another crossover would work best if it was a short scene that they could release before a full movie—just like they do with Pixar. It shouldn't run for too long though. Remember what happened to that Frozen short that played before Coco?

Ralph Breaks the Internet is now available for home video.
