The Netflix biopic, Griselda, gives us a look into the life of the Cocaine Godmother, Griselda Blanco. While it shows us her personal life and close allies, it also gives us a glimpse to some of her enemies. Let's talk about Rafa Salazar in Griselda on Netflix and how he was connected to Blanco.
Who Was Rafa Salazar in Griselda on Netflix?
When Blanco met Rafa Salazar, he immediately did not like the idea that he would be working with a woman-- especially one who was rising from the ranks. This is why he offered to pay her $15 million to hand over her Miami territories to other distributors.
But Blanco was headstrong-- she refused the offer, which led to one of the most brutal gang wars in the history of Miami.
As the representative of the Ochoa Vasquez family, Salazar was tasked to expand the Medellin Cartel's territory. This also put Blanco on the radar of Pablo Escobar.
Despite her rejection, Salazar slowly turned her Miami associates against her. When Blanco learned of this, he became the subject of her anger.
This led to the brutal Dade County Shopping Mall Massacre that killed Herman Jiminez Panesso and injured several bystanders.
Did Rafa Kill Griselda's Sons?
The series shows that Salazar was dating the first cousin of Ochoa, Marta Ochoa Salderriega, who later became a friend of Griselda's. Since Blanco had a penchant for killing off people she had debts to, she managed to kill Marta.
The show also suggested that Marta's death angered Rafa. But this didn't mean that he was behind the murders of Blanco's children.
This seems to suggest that he could have been behind the murder of Blanco's three sons while she was in prison. Since he was killed in 1987, Salazar couldn't have been responsible for these murders.
According to allegations, it was the Medellin Cartel who killed the three men in revenge for the death of Marta.
In real life, Salazar had gotten jealous of his wife and Jorge Luis Ochoa. This led him to betray Ochoa and turn him over to the police. This angered the Medellin Cartel, which allegedly led to them killing Salazar while dressed up as the Colombian national army.
Salazar died at only 35 years old. Some believe it was the Medellin Cartel who killed him. But others believe the Cali Cartel was involved in the shooting.
Who Plays Rafa Salazar in Netflix's Griselda?
The actor behind Rafa Salazar's role in Griselda is Camilo Jimenez Varon. He is said to be an actor/director from Manizales, Colombia.
Aside from Griselda, Varon is famous for his roles in Wild District, Mile 22, and Thousand Fangs.
