Queen Elizabeth is about to celebrate another milestone in her reign in June. Her Majesty would be celebrating a historic year in 2022 as it marks 70 years the throne, making her the longest-serving monarch in Britain.

While there are a lot of festivities expected to happen this summer, royal followers are unlikely to see Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and Prince Andrew. The Sussex couple announced their decision to step back from their royal duties in 2020 and moved to the United States while the Duke of York is not carrying out any royal engagement following his resignation from his duties in 2019.

Royal Family ‘Rethinking Things’ After Prince Harry, Meghan Markle And Prince Andrew Scandals?

Royal historian Marlene Koenig stated the controversies involving Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and Prince Andrew may lead to a so-called “royal rethink.” The U.S.-based librarian has researched the royal family for more than 40 years.

Talking to Express U.K., Marlene Koenig said:

“The loss of Andrew and the loss of Harry and Meghan may have them rethinking things a little bit to see how they do things.”

The royal expert also highlighted the modern approach that royals such as Prince William and Kate Middleton have brought to their roles. Marlene Koenig even praised the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge for their works on mental health and the development of early years children.

Speaking about the royal family, Marlene told the publication:

“Will they move away from the traditional charities? Things like that. Which is what the Cambridges are already doing, focusing on issues, so we will see how it goes.”

The royal historian also looked at the roles played by the members of the royal family and how they would fit into the future of the monarchy. Marlene even picked Sophie, Countess of Wessex, as a royal who would have an increasingly significant role going forward.

Marlene Koenig shared:

“Sophie was already doing things, but now the press has said, ‘Oh, here’s the Countess of Wessex. Let’s do more about her.’ But she’s been there. She’s been doing these things. She’s been taking on more and more, even before Harry married Meghan. So, she’s just been this backbone, this stalwart of the British Royal Family. Doing what is important but not getting more attention for it, and that’s good.”

Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, Prince William, and the rest of the royal family have yet to comment on the reports saying that they are rethinking the future of the monarchy after facing Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and Prince Andrew’s controversies. So, avid supporters of the royal family should take these reports lightly until everything is proven true and correct.

Prince Harry ‘Laying Low’ After Realizing ‘Toll’ On Queen Elizabeth?

Meanwhile, Katie Nicholl told Closer Magazine that Prince Harry is very unlikely to speak against the royal family any time soon. The husband of Meghan Markle has, reportedly, “paused and reflected” on the past year’s events for the royal family, which made him stop criticizing his British relatives for the foreseeable future.

The royal expert told the entertainment news publication:

"He's realized how much last year took a toll on his grandmother and doesn’t want to cause any more upset, so is laying low for now.”

It cannot be denied that 2021 was a heavy year for Queen Elizabeth, who lost her husband – Prince Philip – in April last year. The funeral of the Duke of Edinburgh was even held under strict COVID-19 protocols, which forced them to limit the number of guests.

The grandmother of Prince Harry faced another heartbreak in December 2021 after her close pal, Ann FitzRoy Fortune, passed away at the age of 101. Queen Elizabeth also lost her first cousin, Lady Mary Colman, and her racing friend, Ivor Herbert, earlier this year.

As if that is not enough, Queen Elizabeth also sparked health concerns after she spent a night in hospital due to an undisclosed ailment. Her Majesty’s hospitalization forced her to cancel a number of royal engagements.

Prince Harry, who is now living in Montecito with Meghan Markle, Archie, and Lilibet, has previously made multiple negative comments about his experience in the “Firm” since moving to the U.S. in January 2020. Among the Duke of Sussex’s controversial statements is his allegations of racism against Buckingham Palace and claims he inherited “genetic pain and suffering” from his elders.
