Queen Camilla will be crowned alongside King Charles during his coronation. However, according to a new report, she risks a backlash from her stepson, Prince William, after the palace confirmed the scepter she would be using at the event.

Queen Camilla Risks Herself Facing Prince William's Wrath?

Queen Camilla will use an ivory scepter during King Charles' coronation, the palace confirms. However, the move could spark an intense backlash from the Prince of Wales, who has been an open critic of the contemporary ivory trade, Express reported.

Kate Middleton's husband has been campaigning to stop the illegal trafficking of animal parts, including rhino horn and elephant ivory, under his organization United for Wildlife.

Last year, the Duke of Cambridge hailed a "landmark" illegal wildlife trade sentencing a man to be jailed for five years after conspiring to traffic rhinoceros horns and elephant ivory worth millions of dollars.

Additionally, the heir apparent has been a patron of the conservation charity, Tusk Trust, since 2005. The British non-profit organization was set up in 1990 to advance wildlife conservation across Africa. It also protects African elephants, African rhinoceros, and African lions, along with other threatened species across the continent.

Britain is leading the global conservation efforts after Ivory Act 2018 was brought in. From June 6, 2022, a near-total ban on items containing elephant ivory has been implemented.

However, the palace has remained unfazed, acknowledging that its collection includes ivory. It even suggested that the use of the material was inevitable.

The spokesperson said, per Express.

"As with any historical collection of its size, it is to be expected that the Royal Collection includes items that contain ivory as this reflected the taste at the time."

It remains unknown how the ivory scepter that Camilla will use affects her relationship with her stepson, as neither of them has released a statement about the matter.

How's Prince William's Relationship With His Stepmother Queen Camilla

Royal biographer Angela Levin wrote about Camilla's relationship with King Charles' two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, in her book Camilla: From Outcast to Queen Consort.

She said, per InStyle:

"William and Harry were 23 and 20, respectively, when Camilla officially became their stepmother in 2005. She was more of a friendly grown-up they saw occasionally at royal gatherings. She tried to be encouraging rather than influential."

As for her relationship with Middleton's husband, Levin said they are good. However, Prince William had reportedly clarified that she would not be step-grandmother to his three children — Prince George, 9, Princess Charlotte, 7, and Prince Louis, 4.

Levin said:

"William has made it clear that Camilla is the wife of his father, but not a step-grandmother to his children."

Levin added that the three Cambridge children have "two grandfathers but only one grandmother."

The Queen Consort reportedly has no issues with Prince William's stand on the matter. Levin continued:

"Nor has she [Queen Camilla] tried to take over any responsibility as a stepgrandmother to the Cambridges' children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Especially as Catherine's parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, are so close."
