Producer Avi Arad Opens Up About Sony’s Approach to Venom

Fans rejoiced when Sony finally decided to share Spider-Man to the MCU, but were left dumbfounded when Sony decided to make a Venom spinoff that doesn't seem to be related to the new Spider-Man at all. Producer Avi Arad opens up about Sony's plans for Venom, and why they decided to push forward with the spinoff.

Talking to Vulture, Arad had this to say:

"This is an origin story and we have to try and make it the beginning of a long journey… Kids love Venom. It's something about it that attracts the anti-hero sensibility. So we are very excited."

It looks like Sony is planning to build up another franchise. That all sounds good and well, but they should take note that they also tried to build a franchise with Spider-Man to which they undoubtedly failed—leading them to share their characters with Marvel Studios.

Though I don't want this Venom movie to be terrible, a lot of fans are crossing their fingers that it fails so that Sony will finally ‘learn its lesson' and give full creative control over to Marvel. I mean, Infinity War would have been the perfect set-up for the arrival of the alien symbiote, but now it looks like Sony has their own thing planned.

Hopefully all of it makes sense by the end.

Catch Venom in theaters Oct. 5.
