Princess Diana's Wedding Secrets Revisited

For instance, Barbara Daly revealed that Princes Diana wore her favorite scent – Quelques Fleurs, on her wedding day. And while spraying the perfume, the Princess of Wales accidentally spilled it on her dress. So, the late royal was forced to think quickly on her feet as to how she could cover the stain.

Daly asked Princess Diana to hold the part of her gown that had a stain on it so that the guests and those watching wouldn’t see it. And since her wedding gown is quite long, it only seemed as though she was holding it so that she wouldn’t trip.

Prince Charles’ Goddaughter Shares Details From Her First Meeting With Princess Diana

Other than this, Princess Diana also had a short but impactful message for her bridesmaids on her wedding day. Prince Charles’ goddaughter, India Hicks, told Harper’s Bazaar that the late royal told them, “do your best.”

“We knew what that meant: If we pulled too much, straightening the material, her tiara and veil would slip. But if we didn't pull enough, the effect of the train would be lost,” Hicks said.

Hicks also shared details from her first meeting with Princess Diana, which happened during one of her bridesmaid dress fittings. She said that the mom of two seemed more like a head girl than a princess-in-waiting because there was never a shy moment with her in private.

Prince Charles’ goddaughter said that at a young age, she already saw glimpses of what hell it must be like to always be followed by the press. After all, she also had to be kept hidden from the paparazzi.

“For each fitting, I would be secretly taken out from boarding school and driven to London, where we were rushed past the world's photographers, lying in wait and ready to attack,” she said.

But on her wedding day, Princess Diana looked as stunning as ever. And reports revealed that there was a hidden charm in her dress, and it was an 18-carat gold horseshoe trinket studded with diamonds.

Princess Diana Loved Her Wedding Gown

While speaking with Vanity Fair, royal author Tina Brown said that Princess Diana’s fantasy was fulfilled by her wedding dress.

“[The dress] was the fulfillment of her princess fantasy. She was insistent in her demand for its puffy sleeves and floating silk, its twenty-five-foot taffeta train, its nipped waist, and its antique lace embroidered with pearls and sequins,” she said.

Camilla Parker Bowles Attended Prince Charles, Princess Diana’s Royal Wedding

But one of the most shocking details regarding Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s wedding didn’t have anything to do with the dress that she wore or the perfume that she spilled. Instead, it had to do with the fact that Prince Charles’ then-mistress, Camilla Parker Bowles, attended the royal wedding.

According to People, the Duchess of Cornwall must have been invited to the wedding because of her ex-husband, Andrew Parker Bowles, who was the Commanding Officer of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment.

But in the book Prince Charles: The Passion and Paradoxes of an Improbable Life, it was revealed that Prince Charles was still torn between Princess Diana and Camilla up until his wedding day. And he reportedly broke down in tears the night before his big day.

Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s marriage lasted for a little over 10 years. In 1992, Prince William and Prince Harry’s parents announced their separation. And just four years later, they were officially divorced.
