The Prince and Princess of Wales arrived at the 2023 BAFTA awards red carpet together. In a clip shared by Vogue on Instagram, Middleton gave her husband a playful tap on his butt when he didn't hold hands, according to body language expert Judi James.

James told Mirror that Middleton used tie signs or non-verbal cues at the event, but Prince William was unable to keep his eyes off his stunning wife, and they lost sync of their movement.

Here's what James said:

"As they walk past the crowds, Kate seems to look back to acknowledge a complimentary comment with a smile. She then pushes her right hand out towards William’s in what looks like a cue to hold hands."

The expert added:

"William mistakenly leans in to suggest he is expecting more of the flirty whispering they have been doing and raises his hand as his head gets closer, missing Kate’s offer. Kate then ‘rewards’ William with a pat on the bum. So this works as both a sexy ritual or appreciation and a small reprimand for missing her cue."

Kate Middleton Didn't Reach Out To Hold Hands?

Meanwhile, celebrity psychic and body language expert Inbaal Honigman had another take when she watched what happened to the royal couple on the red carpet. She told Daily Star that Middleton wasn't necessarily reaching out to her husband to hold hands but wanted him closer.

"She’s not necessarily reaching for his hand — although her glamorous long black gloves make it difficult to ascertain exactly. At that exact moment, his hand shoots up to wave to a fan, but Catherine’s movement appears unbroken, as she gestures to William to come closer, with a subtle, quick sweep of her hand."

She noted that Prince William responded by leaning toward her. Their smiling faces indicated that they were likely sharing a joke. She also pointed out how Prince William placed a hand on his wife's shoulder, which was a comforting gesture to assure her that he's with her.

James added that the Prince and Princess of Wales trust each other and:

"They’re in-step with each other as always, walking at the same pace, which tells us how close and attentive they are with each other."
