Prince William grew up just like any other young boy who had tons of energy and a playful spirit. When he was much younger, he revealed almost getting his cousin, Zara Tindall, into an accident because he and his other cousin, Peter Phillips, were horsing around. Tindall and Phillips are Princess Anne’s two children, and they are older than the Duke of Cambridge.
Prince William Ran Zara Tindall Into A Lamppost, Which Caused Panic On Queen Elizabeth
During his interview with Sky News for The Queen at 90 documentary, Prince William detailed an incident wherein a young Tindall almost got squashed by a lamppost. He also shared how Queen Elizabeth rescued her granddaughter after seeing what happened.
“We were chasing Zara around who was on a go-cart, and Peter and I managed to herd Zara into a lamppost. And the lamppost came down and nearly squashed her, and I remember my grandmother being the first person out at Balmoral running across the lawn in her kilt. She came charging over and gave us the most almighty bollocking, and that sort of stuck in my mind from that moment on,” he said (via Geo. TV).

Queen Elizabeth And Princess Diana Were Worried About Prince William’s Behavior
When he was still very young, the Queen reportedly had concerns about Prince William’s behavior. After all, he was quite out of control. According to royal author Tina Brown, even Princess Diana called her eldest son the “holy terror.” At school, the Duke of Cambridge was nicknamed “Basher Wills” and was considered “an entitled little monster.”
“As a toddler, [William] had been a cause of concern to the Queen when he showed signs of being a brat. She complained to her husband that their grandson was 'out of control' and needed a stricter nanny. She was not amused that he loved to say, 'When I am king, I’m going to make a new rule that... By the time he was four, he had the unattractive habit of yapping at his nanny, Barbara Barnes, 'No one tells me what to do! When I am king I will have you punished,’” Brown wrote in The Palace Papers (via Town & Country).
But despite his behavior, it’s obvious that Prince William didn’t mean any harm to Tindall. In the book Charles: The Misunderstood Prince, royal author Sally Bedell Smith revealed that Prince William and Prince Harry were very close to their cousins. When they were kids, they spent time playing outdoors on the hills and by the rivers and lakes.
Prince William Looks Up To Queen Elizabeth
Also, in The Queen at 90 documentary, Prince William shared how huge an influence the Queen has been on him, especially after Princess Diana’s demise.
“She's been a very strong female influence and having lost my mother at a young age, it's been particularly important to me that I've had somebody like the Queen to look up to. [She's someone] who's been there and who has understood some of the more, um, complex issues when you lose a loved one. So, she's been incredibly supportive and I've really appreciated her guidance,” the Duke of Cambridge said (via The Sun).
