Prince William appeared anxious at the Commonwealth Day Service on Monday, according to a body language expert. It seemed that the Duke of Cambridge was reminded of what happened at the event two years ago.

Prince William Remembered The Ghosts Of The Past, Expert Claims

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were present at the Commonwealth Day Service in Westminster Abbey on Monday. Also present at the event were Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles. However, the Queen skipped the event. She announced her absence days before the gathering.

Body language expert Judi James examined Prince William's gestures during the ceremony and she felt that the second in line to the throne looked anxious. James suggested that he may have been "remembering the ghosts of the past" when his sibling Prince Harry and sister-in-law Meghan Markle were still with them for the same event.

"He arrived with one hand spread-eagled across his stomach in a barrier gesture before wiping his hands together and patting at his clothing to suggest inner anxiety," James told Mirror Online (via Express).

Although Prince William seemed to have inner battles, he and his wife appeared at ease around Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles. The senior royal couples put a united front at the event.

"Pared-down and paired-up, the body language displays of affection and unity from Charles, Camilla, William and Kate today looked like an emphatic statement of closure after the unbearable tensions and open rifts of 2020 when Harry and Meghan were bidding farewell to the UK and Edward and Sophie had to sit as human buffers to avoid layers of perma-frost forming," James added.

Prince William And Prince Harry Had Visible Tension During Commonwealth Day Service 2020

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced that they were stepping down from their royal duties in January 2020. Their final engagement that year was at the Commonwealth Day Service where they were seated a row behind Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Multiple sources claimed that the Sussexes' departure wasn't easy for everyone, especially to the Cambridges, who later stepped up to fill the void left by Prince Harry and Markle.

"It’s not been easy for anyone," a source close to Prince Harry and Markle told Vanity Fair. "I think they’re both pretty emotional."

"To be honest, I think Kate has taken it all badly. She, Harry and William were once such a happy trio - she thinks what has happened is all very sad," the insider added.

Body language expert Judi James also pointed out the lack of warm reunion during the gathering. When the Cambridges and Sussexes met, Markle mouthed "hi" and Middleton responded with "hello." James said Prince Harry and Markle looked more genuinely cheerful, Express reported.
