Prince Harry wanted to cut his royal association by relinquishing his dukedom title Duke of Sussex, according to a royal correspondent. However, his and Meghan Markle's team might argue with his plan.

Prince Harry Reportedly Plans To Relinquish His And Meghan Markle's Dukedom Title

The Queen gifted Prince Harry and Meghan Markle the title Duke and Duchess of Sussex when they tied the knot on May 19, 2018. However, after the couple attended the Platinum Jubilee celebration, Prince William's brother was considering relinquishing the dukedom title, according to NBC News royal correspondent Neil Sean.

In one of his content on his YouTube channel, "Neil Sean's Daily News Headlines," Sean cited a "very good source," saying that Markle's husband thinks "it maybe a good idea to relinquish" their title. Neil noted it was interesting because in the first place people are no longer using it.

"It's interesting, isn't it because you know, we don't really use the title Duke and Duchess of Sussex," Sean added. "You know he's known as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. So, perhaps as an individual, as a brand, he knows that they could never take away the title 'Prince Harry' because that's the birth name, the birthright."

He added that Markle and her PR team like to use the title. For instance, when Markle wrote her children's book The Bench, it was published under "Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex," Express reported. Markle also used her royal title when she penned an open letter for Paid Leave for All addressed to congress in October 2021.

Why Prince Harry Would Want To Relinquish Dukedom Title?

Sean speculated that Prince Harry wanted to abandon the dukedom title to cut his association with the royal family to move forward. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down from their royal duties in January 2020. He knows nothing could take away "Prince Harry" from him because it's his birthright.

"As ever, we have to say allegedly, it's seemingly that the firehead that is Prince Harry truly believes that if it is the way forward," Sean continued. "If this is the way for freedom and of course his expression and more importantly, the fact that he can move forward with his life without the shackles of the royal association, then perhaps, this is an idea that they all should be working to now."

In the earlier part of the video, Sean believed that Prince Harry felt bad with the way they were treated during the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebration. In his opinion, Prince Charles' youngest son "thought there was going to be a bigger platform for him."

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed a multi-million, multi-year deal with Netflix and Spotify. Prince Harry also has a memoir with Penguin. There are speculations that their team might not support Prince Harry's plan because the "Duke and Duchess of Sussex is a big seller, particularly on books, podcast and TV shows."
