Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have caused a lot of drama between them and the royal family. However, the latter is keeping mum as they wait for the upcoming coronation of King Charles.
Royal Family Considering A Temporary Truce With Prince Harry And Meghan Markle?
King Charles will have his coronation in May. However, months before his big day, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had made a lot of noise due to their Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan and his memoir Spare.
The Sussexes have received an intense backlash from royal fans and the British public. However, the royal family has stuck to their "never complain, never explain" mantra.
British journalist and royal commentator Jonathan Sacerdoti believed that the royals would reach out to the Sussexes in the hope of putting on a united front for King Charles' coronation. After all, they are still a family.
"I suspect that there are some efforts going on to try and make some form of reconciliation … I think because they don't want [family tensions] to upstage what's going on on that very important day," Sacerdoti told Us Weekly Monday.
"Whether or not that's possible is one thing, and whether or not it's lasting is another thing. Even if they do manage to make some form of peace, [it] might be temporary. I think it's going to be extremely difficult for them as a family — and more broadly, for the nation and for the Institution — to forgive what's happened."
Royals Still 'Feeling Very Sore' From Prince Harry, Meghan Markle's Attack?
Sacerdoti doesn't see the royal family and the Sussexes mending the rift for good anytime soon. According to him, it's also unlikely for Prince Harry to get the apology he wanted.
"I think Harry and Meghan have said they're expecting an apology, but I think there aren't many people who agree that it's due that way round," he added.
"Some of the individuals within [Spare] — the king, the queen and the Prince of Wales — all come out of that book so badly. They're so broadly criticized by Harry, so nastily criticized in sections, that I think they could be feeling very sore about this."
Sacerdoti also speculated that the royal family just kept quiet "because they don't wanna provoke any more of this sort of thing." The whole ordeal is already damaging to them emotionally, personally, and to the nation as a whole.
Prince Harry's criticisms about the institution are "an attack effectively on the part of the Constitution of Great Britain," Sacerdoti added.
