Prince Harry and Meghan Markle appear to be doing well financially. However, they are reportedly not that wealthy, according to a royal biographer.

Prince Harry Can Still Cancel Memoir But Has To Pay For It

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are reportedly stalling their Netflix docuseries and his memoir. Some speculate that they wanted to delay the book to edit its content.

Some said the book could not be stopped, but Vanity Fair royal editor Katie Nicholl said "anything is possible" when it comes to the book. So, there is still a chance that Prince Harry's memoir will not see the light of day, but it will take a lot of money from the Sussexes.

"And it could potentially be stopped but that's going to involve him giving that 17 million back," Nicholl said, Express reported. "And given one of the key reasons they left the royal family was to be financially independent, how are they going to make money? They do need to make money, they're both relatively wealthy in their own right."

However, the New Royals author noted that while Prince Harry and Markle have money, they are not rich to just pay back the publishers.

"But they're not that wealthy that they can just afford to give that back," she continued. There's a mortgage, there's a lot of things to be done."

The author of Harry: Life, Loss, and Love admitted that she hasn't seen Prince Harry's contract with Penguin Random House. However, as a writer, she imagined that there would be a "get-out clause." However, the writer can't take the money and execute the get-out clause at once.

Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Need Money

British journalist and investigative reporter Tom Bower echoed Nicholl's sentiment. The Revenge author agreed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are not that wealthy because they needed money.

He speculated that the royal couple would not let go of their Netflix, Spotify and book deals because these were their only source of income.

"They need the money, now more than ever, because they've got no other source of income," Bower said. "So, I think they're just stuck with the devil. Now they're tied to Netflix, they're tied to their book, and all the criticisms they're going to take means nothing to them because that's the only way they can earn their money."

Royal author Tina Brown also said a similar thing about the Duke and Duchess of Sussexes, who are rumored to be looking for a new home in Hope Ranch. Brown said their $14 million Montecito mansion is only a "humble cottage" compared to the estates in the affluent community they were reportedly eyeing.
