In his new memoir Spare, Prince Harry spoke candidly about the deaths of Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth. He said that there were similarities to losing both of his loved ones, but there was also one major difference.
“The only difference was the levels of emotion. Because our grandmother had finished life. There was more, I think, of a celebration and respect and recognition of what she had accomplished. Whereas our mother was taken away far too young,” he wrote (via Us Weekly).

Prince Harry And Prince William Reportedly Exchanged A Brief Joke During Queen Elizabeth’s Funeral?
Prince Harry also revealed that he and Prince William exchanged a brief joke while at the queen’s funeral. The brothers reportedly told each other, “at least we know the way.” After all, they were also present at Princess Diana’s funeral.
The Duke of Sussex was already an adult when he lost his grandmother. He was also married to his wife, Meghan Markle, and already had two children. But when Princess Diana passed away, Prince Harry was barely a teenager, so he coped with the loss in a different way.
In his and Markle’s Netflix documentary, the Duke of Sussex admitted that he doesn’t have a lot of memories with Princess Diana.
“My childhood, I remember, was filled with laughter, filled with happiness, and filled with adventure. I don’t have many early memories of my mom. It was almost like I internally blocked them out. But I always remember her laugh, her cheeky laugh. Her always saying to me, ‘You can get in trouble, just don’t get caught.’ And I’ll always be that cheeky person inside,” he said.
Prince Harry Claims King Charles Banned Meghan Markle From Seeing Queen Elizabeth In Balmoral?
In Spare, Prince Harry also revealed why Markle wasn’t allowed to accompany him to Balmoral when he paid his final respects to the queen. He said that it was King Charles who didn’t allow his wife to be there.
“[Charles] said I was welcome at Balmoral, but he didn’t want … her. He started to lay out his reason, which was nonsensical, and disrespectful, and I wasn’t having it. [I replied,] ‘Don’t ever speak about my wife that way.’ I put on my black tie, walked off the plane into a thick mist, and sped in a borrowed car to Balmoral. [Princess Anne] asked if I wanted to see Granny. [I answered,] ‘Yes, I do.’ It was difficult, but I kept on thinking how I’d regretted not seeing my mother at the end,” he recounted.
Days after the queen’s death, Markle flew to the United Kingdom to greet mourners outside the palace. She was also present at the queen’s funeral and was spotted shedding a tear while paying Her Majesty her final respects.
