Is Prince Charles Changing His Name When He Becomes King?
An editor claimed that Prince Charles is likely to change his name should he finally becomes king as a tribute to the late Prince Philip. Christine Liwag Diwon suggested that the husband of Camilla Parker-Bowles has the authority to use any of his real names, which is Charles Philip Arthur George.
However, Prince Charles is expected to refrain from following the tradition since different names have caused problems in the royal family before. Christine told the List:
“While the expectation would be that Charles would become King Charles III, according to tradition, he can actually change his first name once he becomes King. There's a precedent in history that some Monarchs have chosen a different name once they became King or Queen, such as King Edward VII, whose birth name was Albert. "It's vital to remember there's only room for one sovereign at a time, not two. Charles was born as Charles Philip Arthur George, and he can use any of those names when he takes the throne. The Constitution Unit at University College London's School of Public Policy explained, ”Instead of becoming King Charles, he might choose to become King George VII, or King Philip, or King Arthur.” While it seems unlikely that Charles would decide to choose a different name, stranger things have happened in the royal world.”

Most, if not all, royal followers are aware that Prince Charles is the apparent heir to Queen Elizabeth, who is now the longest surviving monarch in British history. The Constitution Unit at University College London’s School of Public Policy claimed that the father of Prince William and Prince Harry would not be the first one to use a different name if he chooses to do so.
The unit stated:
"He is free to choose his own regnal title. King Edward VII chose Edward as his regnal title, although hitherto he had been known by his first name of Albert. King Edward VIII also chose Edward as his regnal title, although he was known to his family and friends as David. Prince Charles' Christian names are Charles Philip Arthur George. Instead of becoming King Charles, he might choose to become King George VII, or King Philip, or King Arthur.”
Prince Charles has yet to comment on these statements.
Prince Charles, Camilla Parker-Bowles Sighted Together For First Time Since ‘Queen Consort’ Announcement
Meanwhile, Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles hit the red carpet recently when they attended a reception to celebrate the British Asian Trust at London’s British Museum on Wednesday. The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall got dressed up for the said affair – Prince Charles donned a classic tuxedo while Camilla opted for a green-colored ensemble with a statement necklace.
The recent sighting of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles marked their first joint outing since Queen Elizabeth expressed her “sincere wish” for the Cornwall couple.
Her Majesty used her Platinum Jubilee to share the announcement regarding the future title of Camilla, saying:
"When, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service."
Aside from the royal pair, other event attendees included British Home Secretary Priti Patel, politician Rishi Sunak, film director Gurinder Chadha and DJ Naughty Boy.
To recall, Prince Charles founded the British Asian Trust in 2007, which aims to combat poverty and injustice in South Asia. The husband of Camilla Parker-Bowles wants to “understand people and bring people together."
