Prince Andrew and Prince Harry have both been stripped of their HRH titles and are now considered private citizens. The reason behind Queen Elizabeth’s decision to strip them of their military affiliations and HRH titles differ.

Prince Harry’s titles were removed after he and Meghan Markle decided to quit The Firm. Prince Andrew, on the other hand, lost his titles after he was accused of sexually abusing Virginia Roberts Giuffre.

Home Office Criticized For Giving Prince Andrew Security After His Royal Titles Were Stripped

But Roberta Fiorito, the host of the Royally Obsessedpodcast, said that Prince Andrew gets to keep his security even though he’s already a private citizen but the same thing wasn’t afforded to Prince Harry.

The Duke of Sussex recently complained about not having security detail when he’s in the United Kingdom. He said that he was also banned from paying for his own security when he visited his home to attend Prince Philip’s funeral.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex personally fund a private security team for their family, yet that security cannot replicate the necessary police protection needed whilst in the UK. In the absence of such protection, Prince Harry and his family are unable to return to his home,” the couple’s legal representative said via Newsweek.

Fiorito expressed concerns as to why Prince Andrew continues to get special treatment from the royal family and even the Home Office.

“Prince Andrew still has security and again I am not trying to hijack what’s coming next, we’re talking about Prince Andrew. Still, this is a really big piece of this. You have little kids that you keep wanna safe; you have your wife, you have yourself. They inherited the security risk so the fact they are being denied is really complicated for me. And Buckingham Palace is like, we have nothing to do with this, this is the Home Office. It’s the Metropolitan Police’s problem. it's the Thames Valley police's problem. It's their decision,” Fiorito said.

Prince Andrew A Much Bigger Threat Compared To Prince Harry

Retired chief superintendent Dai Davies responded to Fiorito by saying that Prince Andrew still has his security detail because he’s seen as an even bigger threat compared to Prince Harry.

“Whether (or not) he continues to use his titles, he remains the Queen’s son. Whether or not he is still afforded specialist protection will be based entirely on how serious intelligence suggests the threat level will be. Home Office advisers, the Queen’s private security, and a special committee will decide what the threat level is. If the threat level is low, then like junior royals and his own daughters he will have to fund protection himself. I think they will be very cautious until there has been a very thorough assessment and he will remain protected at least in the short term,” Davies told Daily Mail.

Prince Andrew Should Pay For His Own Security

But Graham Smith of the campaign group Republic said that as a private citizen, Prince Andrew should pay for his own security.

“Why should we be paying for their security? The job of the monarchy is to give us one head of state - we don't need to be giving security to all of them. Lots of celebrities and other high-profile people pay for their own security. Given that he's no longer in any real sense a member of the royal household it does make sense he pays for his own security,” he told Sky News.
