Earlier this month, CNN announced a massive shakeup for its programs. With CNN This Morning among those affected by the shakeup, fans are wondering if Poppy Harlow is leaving CNN. Here's what we know about Harlow and Phil Mattingly's future at the network.
What Happened to Poppy Harlow from CNN's This Morning Show?
The shakeup doesn't come as a surprise. CNN revealed its plans to change its programs in early February.
More specifically, the Warner Bros. Discovery-based cable network plans to shake up its entire morning schedule. Allegedly, this is their way of dealing with the poor ratings brought in by such shows.
The reports reveal that CNN This Morning will be scrapped from the network's morning roster. To make up for that extra hour, Kasie Hunt's Early Start program will now run from 5 AM to 7 AM.
The show will then be followed by CNN News Central with John Berman, Sara Sidner, and Kate Bolduan. After the 10 AM time slot, Jim Acosta and Pamela Brown will take over the program until 11 AM.
CNN This Morning hosts, Poppy Harlow and Phil Mattingly, gave their sign-off message on February 23, 2024. They also thanked the crew for all their hard work over the years.
In his goodbye message to the crew, Mattingly said:
“Your immeasurable talents have infused every show. Your good humor, your smiles have filled every morning, and the fact that you were willing to share that with both of us while working, let’s charitably call them less-than-ideal hours, that’s a testament to your character and explains our shared and unyielding belief in your limitless futures.”
Harlow then added:
“As a viewer, you don’t get to see these folks. They are the real deal. They make it happen. You’ve seen their work every single morning. You and we are better for it. You are the best partner in the world, Phil Mattingly. We will see you all soon. That is it for us. Have a great weekend.”
Are Phil Mattingly and Poppy Harlow Leaving CNN?
So is Poppy Harlow leaving CNN along with Phil Mattingly? In a news report, it was revealed that the two co-anchors of CNN This Morning will be reassigned to a different program.
As of this writing, however, CNN has not yet announced the new roles of Harlow and Mattingly. In a report, Mattingly shared that he will continue to have a New York-based role, especially since he moved his large family to the Big City for the assignment.
As for Harlow, the report says the anchor is still in talks with the network.
Meanwhile, the 50-person staff of the program has been asked to reapply for jobs. In a note sent to the staff, CNN's new CEO Mark Thompson wrote:
“We will no longer produce morning programming in New York and will be disbanding the team that currently produces CNN This Morning in that city. Our New York-based primetime and weekend programming will continue.”
