Pokemon the Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution Will Be Completely CG

Fans were rather surprised to see two teasers for Pokemon the Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution since they were both CGI. Many of us had assumed that the film would still be 2D, with the occasional CGI shot ala the most recent Pokemon movies. Well, a new report from CoroCoro Magazine (via Serebii) revealed that the movie would be completely CGI.

This is a major change for the series since every movie before this one had been drawn with traditional 2D animation, which most anime fans prefer. Many could see this as a huge risk for The Pokemon Company but it's one that can be taken, given the amount of money Pokemon makes. Still, expect a mixed reaction for this announcement, though we can only hope that the movie looks great.

Along with the announcement, we also have our first look at Pikachu and Mew in CG. Both characters actually look pretty decent in CG so the movie might actually look great. We're all just waiting for the human characters since Ash and Giovanni do play roles in this movie, at least they did in the original film.

Pokemon the Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution will come out in Japan this July, with a Western release date not yet confirmed.
