Pokemon the Movie: I Choose You! is Now Streaming on Netflix

Fans of Netflix and Pokemon can rejoice, as the company has added Pokemon The Movie: I Choose You for those to stream and enjoy, or "enjoy" if you're a cynic. This is the first of a new trilogy that has Ash go on new adventures without any lingering continuity to worry about. It already has two sequels in last year's The Power of Us and this July's Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution.

The film retells how Ash meets his good friend Pikachu but quickly ends up being about Ho-Oh and why the trainer encountering this legendary was important. Well, important for this film since this is not canon with the anime and is part of its own universe. Think of this as "Ultimate" Pokemon, while 616 Pokemon is the anime we all know.

I Choose You is a bit infamous with Pokemon fans as the movie has some of the best use of animation and sound design of any film in the series thus far, but it also has one of the worst Pikachu moments ever conceived. Some would argue that the lore and numerous call outs to the game make the film worth it, along with the spectacular fights, but the final few moments could be too silly for some.

As someone who has seen the movie, it's a worthwhile watch, though THAT moment is jarring and really dumb. Marshadow also makes for a disappointing villain since the Pokemon wasn't built up that way. Overall, the animation and fights are enough to warrant this a watch. Plus, it's not that long.

Pokemon The Movie: I Choose You is now on Netflix. Stream it while you can.
