Elves have been long popular in fantasy fiction, though it seems that elves are getting a huge surge of interest in anime. This is exemplified in the Plus-Sized Elf anime adaptation that has gotten lots of attention from anime fans.

After reports of an anime have been shared online in the last couple of days, the Plus-Sized Elf anime was finally confirmed officially today via its newly launched website and X (formerly Twitter) account.

With this series now in the works, the elf mania in the anime world, which seemingly started in 2023, shows no signs of slowing down.

Elves have become a hot topic in the anime world recently. On top of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End continuing with Part 2, the Winter 24 season has also introduced another elf in Marcille from Delicious in Dungeon.

It’s fair to say that Frieren and Marcille are the standouts of their respective shows thanks to their colorful personalities. Adding Elda from Otaku Elf into the mix, elves are definitely taking over.

If that’s not enough, the Plus-Sized Elf manga has just been confirmed to have an anime adaptation in the works.

Not a lot of details have been shared so far, but the show’s first visual was released, which features Elfuda. It was also revealed that Ayasa Ito (Garumi Lou in Too Cute Crisis) will voice the elf.

As the title implies, this series stars Elfuda, a plus-sized elf who has left her world and arrived in the human world. In her new world though, Elfuda develops an obsession with junk food.

The series’ protagonist is not Elfuda though. Instead, massage therapist Naoe Tomoatsu is the main character. He meets Elfuda, who asks for his help to shed her weight.

Plus-Sized Elf Anime Reveal Elicits Strong Reactions From Fans

Given the elf mania that has gripped the anime fandom over the past weeks, it should come as no surprise that this new anime announcement got a strong response from fans on sites like X and Reddit.

Many fans are happy to see even more elves get the anime treatment. Of course, some are skeptical given the rather fetish-like premise.

For now, fans will have to wait a while as there’s no word yet on a release date for the Plus-Sized Elf anime, though it is set to premiere sometime this year.

Those who can’t wait can read the original manga, which is being published in North America by Seven Seas Entertainment.
