Disney+'s Percy Jackson series just dropped a Wizard of Oz reference. In the latest episode, Sally Jackson alluded to the classic line from the 1930s musical. Here's what the line meant in Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

The seventh episode of Percy Jackson and the Olympians series took fans to a flashback scene that Hermes teased in the Lotus Casino.

While Percy and Sally Jackson parked in front of Yancy Academy boarding school, Sally said, "Well, we're not in Kansas anymore."

At the time, Percy did not understand Sally's reference, which she replied, "I never showed you that movie?"

When the flashback was done, Percy repeated the line to himself when he, Annabeth, and Grover entered the River Styx in the Underworld.

Annabeth told him to snap out of it, thinking that he was referring to their trip to Kansas four days ago.

Contrary to what Annabeth believed, Percy and Sally Jackson's "Kansas" line isn't about the actual city, but rather a nod to the classic musical. Here's what it means in the Percy Jackson series.

There is no question that the movie being referenced in the latest Percy Jackson episode is the timeless Wizard of Oz.

For the uninitiated, Dorothy, the main protagonist, had her house transported her into a different land outside her home, which is Kansas City.

Their "We're not in Kansas anymore" is essentially a Wizard of Oz reference, and the line resonates with their situation more than you think.

To Dorothy, the line was meant to be taken in the literal sense, but it is also meant to be a phrase that has come to mean she has entered unfamiliar territory.

The same concept applies to Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

In the flashback, Sally doesn't know what to do with Percy. As much as she wants to keep him safe, more Greek mythical creatures start showing up in front of him, which isn't a good sign at all.

The fact that she doesn't know how to handle Percy's demigod blood in the human world is another factor that Poseidon, the father of her child, can't help her with, either.

Meanwhile, when Percy repeats his mother's line, it is not only to mirror the similar (much scarier) situation they were in but also the uncertainty of whether they'll even succeed in their quest.
