The Penguin Series Casts Veteran Actor Clancy Brown in Major Role

Following the success that The Batman released last year and the accolades that it received soon after, production is finally underway for The Penguin spinoff series that centers on Colin Farrell's Oswald Cobbeplot after the events of the first film and is set to be the first official series in the franchise.

Now that the project is early in its filming process, it looks like they have recruited another cast member in its ensemble as Deadline has reported that veteran actor Clancy Brown is joining The Penguin for a recurring role as Salvatore Maroni.

As Batman fans know, the character is known to be a powerful mob boss and gangster in Gotham City. He is also the person behind the disfigurement of Harvey Dent, who became Two-Face as a result. He was also mentioned in the first film.

After the reports surfaced online, Brown addressed his casting on Twitter where he simply wrote in his tweet, "Just gonna leave this here…have a great weekend. #ThePenguin."

Besides Farrell, the cast also includes Cristin Milioti, Michael Kelly, Rhenzy Feliz, Shohreh Aghdashloo, and Deirdre O’Connell. The executive producing team includes Farrell, Matt Reeves, Craig Zobel, Bill Carraro, Daniel Pipski, and Lauren LeFranc, who also serves as the showrunner.

Brown is known for his roles in films such as Highlander, The Shawshank Redemption, and Starship Troopers. A lot of people recognize him as the voice of Mr. Krabs in Spongebob Squarepants, and has done voice-over works in both DC and Marvel projects including Lex Luthor in Superman: The Animated Series and Surtur in Thor: Ragnarok.

Just based on his body of work alone and his decades-long career, there is no doubt that Brown is a great addition to the cast and he is also perfect to play the role of Salvatore Maroni since we have seen him done a lot of wonderful villainous roles in the past.
