Patrick Stewart Has Verbally Committed to Star Trek Return

When CBS announced a new deal that would expand the Star Trek television mythos, one of the first rumors to come out of it was the possibility of Patrick Stewart returning to helm a new series as Captain Picard. Stewart's run as Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation was very memorable and lead to more iconic roles for the actor, including Professor X in the X-Men movies.

Though the deal isn't official yet, Mirror UK reports that the actor has verbally agreed to return to Star Trek in some capacity, most notably a reboot of Next Generation. CBS might also work on an animated Star Trek series and Stewart could easily voice his character there as well. Frankly, the possibilities are endless if the 77-year-old does return.

According to the report, we can expect a huge announcement in the next few weeks regarding the return of Stewart. He hasn't really done anything Star Trek related, aside from a few Family Guy episodes where the actor played as himself. Getting Stewart would be a huge boon for CBS and we can only hope he does, assuming it's convenient for him.

For those who aren't familiar with Stewart's history in the Star Trek franchise, Picard helped reinvigorate the franchise, leading the Enterprise throughout all seven seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation which ran from 1987 to 1994. Picard also became a pivotal character in a few Star Trek movies including Star Trek Generations (1994), Star Trek: First Contact (1996), Star Trek: Insurrection (1998), and Star Trek: Insurrection (2002).
