Patrick Stewart Addresses Professor X's Future in the MCU

Patrick Stewart as Professor X is one of the most iconic characters in the MCU. Stewart first appeared as the character in the original X-Men trilogy, which spanned three films from 2000 to 2006. Despite appearing in four more films, Professor X died in 2017's Logan. The Star Trek: Picard actor made a memorable appearance as Charles Xavier in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022); could this mean something futuristic for his character?

Speaking with ET Online, Stewart is optimistic that his cameo in Doctor Strange 2 is not the last time that fans will see the best of his character, despite not officially confirming his MCU return. “Charles Xavier? Well, I am looking to borrow his wheelchair if we're to do much more Star Trek, or standing up is becoming a bit of a problem,” he teased. “I can't say about what Charles' future might hold,”

The decorated actor also shared that his close friend and X-Men counterpart, Sir Ian McKellen, who played Magneto in the original franchise, responded very well to his Doctor Strange 2 cameo. He subtly revealed that they have comeback plans for the MCU.

“It went very well. He did say something like ['Hey, I would've done this!'], yes, that's true,” narrated Stewart. “But we're not done, Sir Ian and myself. We're... we got plans.” Rumor has it that McKellen’s Magneto was supposed to also appear in Doctor Strange 2, but the director of the film felt that his narrative was not fitting in the story of Dr. Stephen Strange, and hence the scene was removed.

Stewart shared in a previous interview that he's “been told to stand by” about a potential appearance in the upcoming Deadpool 3. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are confirmed to reprise their roles as Wade Wilson/Deadpool and Logan/Wolverine, respectively. “I know nothing more than that, honest,” Stewart admitted.

The X-Men series can be streamed on Disney+.
