Path of Exile on mobile was announced ExileCon 2019 alongside Path of Exile 2. The pitch for Path of Exile on mobile was pretty simple: Path of Exile on a phone. GGG isn't planning on making a skimmed-down, lite version of Path of Exile that works on a phone, they want to bring Path of Exile to mobile.

Accordingly, the game is expected to be the full Path of Exile experience. Of course, the UI will change and there'll be a whole new touchscreen way to play, but this will still be the full Path of Exile experience. Though, it's not currently clear whether or not the servers for Path of Exile on mobile will crossplay with other versions of the game.

Going further, while the full Path of Exile experience is expected on mobile, so you'll be able to play the campaign or whatever else, GGG notes the endgame mapping system of Path of Exile is actually perfect, as it is, for mobile. A map tends to be, by the endgame, a relatively quick thing to do, often being completed in just a few minutes.

And once you've finished your map, the map is gone. It's done. Then, you can choose to keep mapping, if you'd like. This kind of gameplay loop is the ultimate fit for a phone, something you can pick up and play for a few minutes when you have some free time. All without any changes being made to the core game specifically for mobile.

Largely, it's expected that Path of Exile will be the same game, but it's silly to think there will be no changes to how the game plays to make it work on mobile. Just don't expect big changes to the core experience or anything along those lines. It'll be like Path of Exile on console but for mobile instead.

We don't yet have an official release date for Path of Exile on mobile. However, it was recently announced that the community will getting major information about the upcoming Path of Exile 2 and Path of Exile on mobile. We don't know if there's going to be a release date officially announced for PoE mobile at ExileCon, but it's a pretty safe bet.

What's more, though, is that Path of Exile 2 is expected sometime in late 2023 or early-to-mid 2024, at the moment, which would make sense considering ExileCon is taking place in July of 2023. As we head towards PoE 2's launch, we likely also head towards Path of Exile mobile's launch.

It's not clear if we'll see these games released on the same day, but even if they don't come out at the exact same time, releasing them together makes a lot of sense. See, Path of Exile 2 is coming to the original Path of Exile client and will function as a new campaign to work through, flowing into the same mapping endgame of Path of Exile.

Since this is the case, it may also be the case that Path of Exile 2 will come to mobile in the same way Path of Exile is coming to mobile. If that does come to pass, it would make a lot of sense for Path of Exile on mobile to come out alongside Path of Exile 2. Though, it's also possible the game comes out on mobile first as a function of the marketing push for PoE 2.

Path of Exile on mobile is going to be the full Path of Exile experience, according to GGG, which naturally includes monetization. Expect the same monetization from Path of Exile on mobile as you can expect to see in traditional Path of Exile.

Path of Exile does have microtransactions, but they're all cosmetic. Different ways to customize the look of your character for real money, not how it performs. There are also some optional lootboxes that are, also, all cosmetic, and there are some systems in place to ensure you won't be stuck with duplicates.

You can expect to see all of this on the mobile version of the game, but don't expect wait timers or a huge host of different currencies you can buy with real money or anything like that. Don't expect the normal nickel-and-diming of mobile games with Path of Exile on mobile.
