Parasyte: The Grey is a sci-fi thriller that follows a woman who miraculously survives a car accident.

It is later revealed that the reason behind Su-In's (played by Jeon So-Nee) survival is an unidentified parasite living inside her. But she is not alone, several others around the world have been taken over by these parasites too.

But unlike Su-In, the other humans infected by the parasites have no control over their thoughts and bodies. The parasites are capable of making them do things against their will, including murder.

Because of this, the Korean government has created an anti-parasite task force called "The Grey."

Su-In's symbiotic relationship with the parasite leaves a precedent for what the world can be like if the parasite and its host can co-exist.

So is Parasyte: The Grey based on a manhwa? The answer is yes and no. This is because the material was based on a Japanese manga called Parasyte, which Hitoshi Iwaaki created.

The original manga sold over 25 million copies in more than 30 regions and countries. This led its creator to create an anime series called Parasyte: The Maxim.

Another important thing to take note of is that it is not a continuation of the manga. The two are set in the same universe, but Parasyte: The Grey gives its viewers a different experience.

In an interview with Tudum, Hitoshi explained that the K-drama takes place in a different location that "will lead us into a world beyond my imagination."

Parasyte: The Maxim ran from 2014 to 2015. The anime series was a true adaptation of the manga, which means that its content was synonymous with its source material.

Also, the story of both the manga and anime concluded years ago.

The live-action adaptation of Parasyte: The Grey is an expansion of that universe with an all-new set of characters and is set in a South Korean city called Namil.
