Paramount Planning A Potential Optimus Prime Transformers Movie

Bumblebee sure is reinvigorating the Transformers franchise because it looks like another film in the main timeline is on its way.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura just spoke in an interview with CinePop today (via ScreenRant), and during the discussion with the publication, the Transformers producer revealed that Paramount has been planning to develop another movie for a franchise, this time, one for the main timeline.

Bonaventura was then asked whether an origin story, specifically for Optimus Prime, would be in development.

"We hope so. Optimus Prime is a tricky one because he's so wise and smart that it's hard to decide how you can make him uh how you can create an emotional story around him," the producer said in response. "Yeah, we're also going to do a big Transformers movie as well."

This is definitely big news for fans. The Transformers film series, while not as critically-acclaimed, has proven itself a lucrative fanfare which has gathered quite a number of fans around the globe. The first Transformers movie starring Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox was the fifth highest-grossing film of 2007, earning fairly positive reviews from both fans and critics.

The franchise's most recent film starring Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena and Dylan O'Brien is also doing exceptionally well, scoring a whopping 93% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. That's the best number in the Transformers franchise, proving that sometimes prequels can outdo the main story itself.

Hopefully, this success extends to whatever Transformers movie Paramount has in mind after the release of Bumblebee.

Bumblebee premieres December 21, 2018.
